The vestiges let behind by the ancient man are among the main evidences of the rich period of this region in the prehistory eras, the hundreds of engravings and drawings found in the caverns and rivers of the mountain regions and precisely in Akakus and Wadi Matkhantush mountains are witnessing a period when the region was rich of its natural vegetation and wild animals in addition to being a part of the world human civilizational heritage, these arts are distinguished with a high artistic value, moreover they represent one of the tourist sources of the region, the rivers and caverns of Akakus that were formed as a result of graving factors are among the mountain regions rich of rocky prehistory arts chosen by the painters as a center for their artistic works, it represents in fact the main center of prehistory arts in Libya, and the main center known in the southern region of Mediterranean sea and Europe, this region is declared as being a region for the world human civilizational heritage.
